Car Seat Safety

 

In December and January Lt. Smith, of Saraland Police Department, led an Advanced Earn While You Learn class on car seat safety at the Saraland Chamber of Commerce.

Advanced Earn While You Learn

The Saraland Center recently held a class for the current Earn While You Learn Students of reducing the risks of SIDS. The class was led by Veronica Hudson of USAC&W Hospital.

Family Meal Challenge

The Women's Resource Center recently hosted a Family Meal Challenge! program at the Sage Avenue location. This program was put on by Sharon Fruh, PhD, RN, FNP-BC, an assistant professor at the University of South Alabama (USA) College of Nursing. Dr. Fruh's expertise is in family meal research. The purpose of the Family Meal Challenge! program is to empower individuals to eat healthy meals together as a family. This program provides participants with helpful strategies to help them with planning, preparation, and communication at the table.

The first class was a two-hour class at the Women's Resource Center at the end of March on the Benefits of Family Meals and Planning and Healthy Meals. She brought Chef Dianne Arnold to serve the class members a delicious, healthy meal she prepared in a slow cooker. Chef Arnold shared her recipe with the class. Lots of great cooking-related door prizes were given away along with notebooks full of resources related to each class.

Dr. Fruh returned April 27th to teach The Power of Atmosphere, and Jennifer Dierking, an expert on freezer cooking, joined her to talk on How to Make Healthy Meals a Reality through Freezer Cooking. Again, Chef Dianne treated participants to a tasty home-cooked meal, and recipes and door prizes such as Crock-pots were given away.

Dr. Fruh will be returning to wrap up this great program with the clients of the Women's Resource Center in June.

SIDS Information Class

Earn While You Learn students from the Saraland Women's Resource Center met at the Saraland Chamber to learn about reducing the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

Learning to Swaddle

Our Earn While You Learn students are learning some basic tools in new born care such as how to swaddle their babies, feedings, soothing techniques, and more.

 

SAFE SLEEP FOR BABIES

Veronica Hudson, Nurse Director at USA Women's & Children's Hospital, came out to the Saraland Chamber of Commerce to lead a class on "Safe Sleep for Babies" for our clients. 13 clients from Mobile and Saraland were in attendance to learn how to reduce the risks of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).
